Dumpster Hidden Fees: 7 Reasons Bills Go Over the Quote
Most dumpster hidden fees come from seven things: weight over the included tons, extra days, rain-soaked debris, $50 items, overfilling, a blocked drop spot and an unplanned swap. Each one is avoidable once you know the rule and the fee.
Which hidden fees show up on dumpster bills?
Seven charges show up on dumpster bills after the quote: overage tons, extra days, rain weight, $50 items, overfilling, a blocked drop spot and an unplanned swap. Knox Bros lists each one with its exact amount, so none of them is hidden. The table shows the fee and how to avoid it.
| Reason | Knox Bros fee | How to avoid it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Weight over included tons | $75 per ton, by the pound | Match heavy debris to a 10 or 15-yard; run the overage calculator |
| 2. Keeping it past 7 days | $25 per day | Call before day 7 to schedule pickup |
| 3. Rain-soaked debris | Adds weight at $75/ton | Tarp the box when rain is forecast |
| 4. Mattresses, tires, Freon appliances | $50 each | Take one or two to the transfer station instead |
| 5. Debris above the rim | $125 dry run | Load level with the top rim; heavy debris halfway |
| 6. Blocked drop or pickup spot | $125 dry run | Clear cars, gates and low branches |
| 7. Box fills before the job ends | Swap billed as a new rental | Size up for light, bulky debris |
How do I check the weight charge on my invoice?
Check a weight charge by reading the certified scale ticket attached to your Knox Bros invoice. Net weight is gross minus tare. Subtract your size's included tons, then multiply the difference by $75. A 20-yard at 3.26 tons net is 0.26 ton over, or $19.50.
